ASSESSMENT & REPORTING
Teachers use a wide range of
assessment techniques to identify pupils' strengths and weaknesses and, in response,
to review courses and teaching approaches to meet pupils' needs. In the early
years we use continuous assessment but in March of S3 pupils sit exams as part
of the preparation for prelims and SQA exams in S4. Prelims are held in
November/December of S4 and in late February for S5 and S6. Standard Grade, and Higher Still exams are sat in May and June.
A written report will be issued annually but
there is also an opportunity to meet teachers at parents' evenings. We value
these contacts and would encourage you to take the opportunity to discuss your
child's progress with classroom teachers. However, you do not need to wait for
a parents' evening if you have any concerns. If you contact your child's
guidance teacher, a `report check' will be done and reported back to you by
phone or letter. If any issues are identified which need further discussion, an
interview can be arranged in the school at a mutually convenient time.
Additional
information in the form of booklets is issued before courses are chosen for
S3/S4 and S5/S6.
